Still Righteous, Still Rockin', Folkin' you up!
For my 40th birthday present to myself, I bought these tickets, and wow~ it was so great to be back with this crowd, to see a new opening act perform (Gaby Moreno, you RULE, babe), and to watch Movements recharged and sharing her creative spirit with that inimitable joyful grrrl spirit. Like me, she's tired (the way that mom's get tired at the end of a night)~ but like me~ she still has fire and love and passion for art. Oh, how I missed my Movements shows... but I'd taken a couple of years hiatus from her shows because there'd gotten to be a time where I had paid lots of money to see her in NYC at the Beacon Theater for multiple nights. And though I listened to her discs, it was her live-like-a-sunspot-shows that I craved. This was the 35th time I'd been to see her~ the only performer I've seen more times than the Grateful Dead. Interesting~ while she seems to LIKE her band, now, she doesn't seem to LOVE them... not the way that she did with Andy and Sarah or with Julie and the boys. They seem more restrained, which allows her to be the star and that is great~ but it's not even close to the feeling of love and family that used to emanate from the stage. Each night she played for an hour or less, very low energy... and I was more than a little disappointed. But I missed her...
